Brewing Tips For your Kona Coffee

1. Buy whole beans and grind your coffee at home before you brew. Freshly ground coffee is always better for a more flavorful cup. Grind only as much as you plan to brew. Ground coffee doesn't store well.  Keep coffee stored as whole beans. As a general rule use medium grind for a drip coffee maker and a coarse grind for a French press.

2. Brewed coffee is 98% water. Use bottled or filtered water for brewing. The ideal temperature for brewing is between 190 to 205 degrees F (just under boiling temperature).

3. The recommended ground to water ratio for brewing is two tablespoons of ground for every six ounces of water.  The best brew time is about four minutes. Be careful when brewing in automatic drip coffeemakers. Brewing less than the usual capacity of the coffeemaker may cause the brewing time to lessen thus creating a weak coffee cup.

4. Most coffee connoisseurs prefer press pots (French press) or gold filters for brewing. Paper filters may block the full flavor potential of the coffee.  Some paper filters may even add a paper taste to the brew.
